The Art of James Northfield

The James Northfield Heritage Art Trust (JNHAT) is a not-for-profit organisation established in October 2002 to preserve, protect and promote the works of James Northfield, one of Australia’s most celebrated twentieth-century poster artists. The Trust holds copyright for all Northfield works until 2043. Royalties from authorised use fund the annual James Northfield Lithography Scholarship at the Australian Print Workshop, awarded to contemporary women artist-printmakers developing their practice in lithography.  Read more

ANNOUNCING: We Sit in Circle 3–30 July 2026

This is an abstract dot painting featuring concentric circles and various patterns in shades of brown, blue, white, and turquoise. It includes stylized fish swimming in blue water at the bottom and arch-shaped motifs resembling trees or rock formations in the background.

The James Northfield Heritage Trust is very proud to be supporting the second iteration of We Sit in Circle – an exhibition about women’s strength, hope, and survival, showcasing powerful paintings and intricate weavings by First Peoples women with lived experience of incarceration.
