Barbie Kjar - APW/JNHAT Lithography Scholarship recipient 2019
Barbie Kjar is a Tasmanian artist and has completed a Master of Fine Art at RMIT, Melbourne and a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Education, University of Tasmania, Hobart. In 2019, as well as receiving the James Northfield Lithography Scholarship, Barbie was also a finalist in the Geelong Print Prize and Lyn McCrea Drawing Prize and in 2018, a finalist in the 2018 Paul Guest drawing Prize. She has undertaken residencies in France, Rome, Barcelona, Havana, San Francisco, Mexico City and Tokyo and been the recipient of several Australia Council grants. Since 1986 she has held 36 solo exhibitions in Australia and more recently in Barcelona and Tokyo. Her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions in Australia including the Glover Prize (2014), The Rick Amor Drawing Prize (2014), Swan Hill Drawing prize (2014), Alice prize (2014), Works on Paper Art Prize, Mornington Peninsula Art Gallery, (2012), The Dobell Drawing Prize (2010) and in China, Korea, Siberia, France, Canada, USA , Japan. Barbie Kjar’s work has been purchased by the Australian National Gallery, Canberra; Parliament House, Canberra; Wagga Wagga Gallery; National Gallery of Victoria; Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery; Fremantle Arts Centre; Grafton Regional Gallery; Queensland University of Technology; Gold Coast City Art Gallery; University of Southern Queensland and is held in private collections in USA, France, Sweden, England and Australia.
